I always talk about how important it is to keep those close family ties, even when it gets tough or there’s distance. Just the other day, I got a group text about a new addition to the family, and I realized I didn’t even recognize most of the names in the thread. That hit me hard right then. Siblings, nieces, nephews… people that should be familiar, but it’s all a blur now. It’s a lonely feeling, this getting older and realizing I haven’t stayed connected in the way I should have.

The thing is, you need to make an effort with your family. Even if there have been disagreements, it’s worth it in the end. I made my share of mistakes—not being there enough, not offering enough support. But, hey, it’s never too late to reach out and try to rebuild, and that’s what I’m doing. I’m telling you, treasure your family while you’re all still here.

I remember my brothers & sisters always had my back growing up. They included me, protected me. It makes me sad that things drifted with some of them. I wish I’d put in the time and energy to keep those bridges strong. Don’t get hung up on little squabbles, just let them go and work on what truly matters.

And you know what? Sometimes even those friends who become family are the ones who save you. We’ve all got our quirks and issues in our families, but that’s just life. Cherish them, the blood and the ones who become like blood.
